Have you ever looked at your calendar and wondered how it became so full?
A new project. A new commitment. A new opportunity. A new initiative. Each one seemed worthwhile. Each one deserved a YES.
The problem is not any single commitment. The problem is that we keep adding. What we often forget is that every YES comes with a cost: Time. Attention. Energy.
When we continually add without subtracting, we eventually may feel overwhelmed.
I have experienced this recently while increasing my activity on LinkedIn around the launch of my book.
I couldn't simply add more writing, more engagement, and more posts on top of everything else. Something else had to give. Because energy works a bit like a budget. If you spend more in one area, you need to spend less somewhere else.
One Small Step...
Before saying YES to your next commitment, ask yourself one simple question:
"What will I need to say NO to in order to say YES to this?"
The response might be less television, fewer meetings, another project, or less time scrolling on your phone. Saying NO is not about being difficult. It is about being intentional. It is to ensure you have enough energy for the things that matter most to you.
Sometimes the most powerful way to create more energy is not to add something new. It's to remove something that no longer belongs.
🚀 This is one of the many stories and practices I share in my book BOOST - Energize Your Life One Small Step at a Time, which launched recently and is now available wherever books are sold.
What is one thing you've said NO to recently that created more space and energy in your life?
