Overperformance is a fantastic strategy. Until it becomes your identity.

Overperformance is a fantastic strategy. Until it becomes your identity.

That's one of the concepts that stayed with me after reading Life. Reclaimed by Pippa Grange.

Many of us have learned how to overperform. We push harder, take on more, go the extra mile, and deliver beyond expectations. In moments that can be necessary and even rewarding.

The problem is not overperformance itself. The problem starts when we try to overperform in every area of life, all the time. If you keep depleting your energy without replenishing it, you eventually empty your battery, and burnout is no longer a possibility but a destination.

What I found particularly powerful about this book is that it doesn't stop at telling us to rest more. It asks a deeper question:

Why do we feel the need to constantly prove ourselves in the first place?

Understanding the source of that drive may be even more important than learning the recovery techniques.

For me, the central lesson is simple: Regeneration is not the opposite of performance. It is what makes sustainable performance possible.

When we work hard, we need to rest hard. Period.

Worth reading. Worth reflecting on. And, for many of us, worth acting on.
